Job Description
Charleston Community Sailing (CCS) is a 501c3 nonprofit created to make sailing more accessible to all who wish to learn and take part. Its purpose is to engage the lives of children and adults ages 5 and older in unique learning experiences through innovative programs to build character and promote a healthy spirit, mind, and body. Our programs stabilize youth and help them to realize their hidden talents while conquering their fears and doubts by using sailing as a vehicle. The mission of Charleston Community Sailing is to provide access, facilities, and sailing instruction to anyone, regardless of socioeconomic background, skill level, or physical ability.
CCS is seeking race coaches for our Introduction to Racing 420 classes this spring and summer. Summer programs run from June 1 through July 31. We will also be running 420 classes on select weeknights and weekends throughout the spring.
The right candidate will have 420 racing experience, a passion for working with children of all backgrounds, and a positive attitude. Familiarity with spinnaker flying and trapeze work is preferred.
Job Requirements
Experience rigging and sailing scholastic and/or Club 420s
Ability to recognize the inherent risks involved in sailing and continually assess and adjust programming accordingly
Ability to coordinate activities that are appropriate for the level of each sailor
Ability to safely operate motorboats
Ability to work outdoors with exposure to saltwater, varying temperatures, weather conditions, and noises
Minimum Required Active Certifications

CCS is looking for a part-time dockmaster to assist with performing a variety of tasks to ensure a clean, safe and inviting community sailing center.
Essential Functions:
Oversees the maintenance of the sailing center facilities to include the tent structure, storage facilities, docks, equipment and boats; assists with the overall cleanliness and maintenance of the facility; makes minor repairs to equipment and docks; contacts appropriate parties for major and/or specialized repairs and maintenance.
Maintains equipment inventories, orders supplies as needed, ensures that all equipment is working safely and effectively.
Updates and enforces standard operating procedures for the sailing center as set by CCS.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Performance Standard:
Employees at all levels are expected to effectively work together to meet the needs of the organization. Employees are also expected to lead by example and demonstrate the highest level of ethics.
Required Knowledge:
Sailing Center Operations: Thorough knowledge of the policies and procedures affecting CCS’ sailing center operations as well as boating operations and activities.
Maintenance: Basic knowledge of the methods, tools and equipment used in the repair of docks as well as sailing dinghies, keelboats and motorboats.
Safety: Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, and safety regulations related to boating, docks, and water safety as well as other work-related precautions.
Essential Functions:
Computer Skills: Utilizes a personal computer with work processing, spreadsheets and related software to effectively complete a variety of administrative tasks with reasonable speed and accuracy.
Interpersonal Relationships: Develop and maintain cooperative and professional relationships with employees at all levels and outside parties. Shares knowledge with staff for mutual and departmental benefit.
Responsibilities:
Weekly dockmaster report
Removing logs and debris from slips / removing trash from facility
Maintain organization and cleanliness of all dock boxes
Maintain organization and cleanliness of all sails and sheds
Maintain organization and cleanliness of all storage facilities
Maintain active registration of all boats and motors with DNR (including removal of obsolete items)
Ensure all motorboats are fueled adequately for required use
Ensure all motorboats are stored properly daily (plugs out, motors up, tied to dock)
Sell or dispose of items CCS no longer benefits from holding onto
Take ownership of all waterfront tasks
Minimum Required Active Certifications
National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) Approved Safe Boaters License
Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record
Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally. This job requires walking and standing to a significant degree

The right candidate will have Opti sailing experience, a passion for working with children of all backgrounds, and a positive attitude. Racing experience is preferred.

Experience rigging and sailing Optimist dinghies and/or SailQube prams
Ability to recognize the inherent risks involved in sailing and continually assess and adjust programming accordingly
Ability to coordinate activities that are appropriate for the level of each sailor
Ability to safely operate motorboats
Ability to work outdoors with exposure to saltwater, varying temperatures, weather conditions, and noises
Minimum Required Active Certifications
